| Welcome to Barrys Kitchens - Bathrooms - Accessories |
In 1869, kitchens were advertised like this:
An old rule of residential kitchen design is that the “work triangle,” a triangle connecting the range, sink, and refrigerator, should have a perimeter of more than 12 feet but less than 22 feet.
Cabinetry
Horizontal levels in kitchens are described by height above the finish floor (a.f.f.).
The tops of base cabinets are 34½ inches a.f.f.. The countertop adds another 1½ inches, so the height of the finished counter is conventionally 36″ a.f.f.. Ideally, however, a countertop should be 3 inches below the height of the elbow of the person who will be using the counter.
The depth of the counter is usually 24 inches. Single door and drawer base cabinets range in length from 12 to 24 inches, on 3-inch modules. Double door and other types can be as wide as 48″, again on 3-inch modules. Base units for sinks and ranges range from 54 to 84 inches on 6-inch modules.
Wall cabinets are usually either 30 or 42 inches high, although 12″, 18″, and 24″ cabinets are also available. The depth is usually 12 inches. The level for the top of 30-inch cabinets is 83½ a.f.f. with a soffit, or 84″ a.f.f. without. The tops of 42-inch cabinets are 95½ inches a.f.f.. Available lengths range from 24″ to 48″ in steps of 3″.
Cabinets 84″ high are made for refrigerators (in widths of 36″, 39″, and 42″), for such tools as brooms (18″ to 36″ in steps of 6″), and to hold ovens at eye level (24″ or 27″ wide).
Dishwashers require a 24″ opening (European models require 60 cm).
Ranges are typically 30″, 36″ or 48″ wide.
In 2006, kitchens are advertised like this:
While the kitchen is truly the heart of the home, 'Our Company' also realizes the need to make it a quality work environment. By doing so, you'll have more time to spend in other rooms of your home! Our kitchen and bathroom design firm fulfills your design needs with integrity.
Whether a "contemporary elegance," or an heirloom quality, design, 'Our Company' provides your home with a one-of-a-kind, innovative design. Design solutions that are unique to your needs, wants and budgetary concerns are what sets 'Our Company' apart!
So WHO do you believe???
A very interesting dilemma indeed and the answer is the same regardless of the industry concerned. How do you know you are making the right choice when you are making any purchase?
We did a search on Google and came up with 25,300,000 responses, naturally we didn’t look at all of them, but we did visit quiet a few of them and they all had the same underlying core truth. That truth is as simple as it is complex, and in just a few sentences it goes something like this.
Trust referrals only, not promises or fancy advertising. Know fully what you are getting and see it before you agree to purchase. Go to companies with experience and who have been in the business for many years. Find out before hand what after sales service you can expect if there is an unexpected problem.
All of this seems just like common sense, but how often does the pumpkin jump on and the noggin jump off, to coin a very rustic and charming Australian colloquialism.
Barrys Kitchens fills all the expected qualities above. We have been in the one location for nearly two decades, we know our business very well, we would not have lasted this long otherwise. We visually show you via our Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, exactly what you will get, down to the very last micron in size. We have never advertised in the mainstream media (this website is an experiment for us) because we have always had plenty of business via either repeat customers or referrals.
Barrys Kitchens does fit the common sense paradigm very well, so if you want a new kitchen or bathroom and you live within a reasonable distance, then come into our store and take a virtual tour of exactly what we can do for you. We have permanent display units, so that you can touch actual timbers and materials and finishes. We believe you should touch a material to truly understand its relative worth in the scheme of things.
If you hunger for more knowledge and are technically inclined, then click on either the Kitchens or Bathrooms links in the Technical navigational menu section on the left-hand side of this website.
